Santiago’s suburban paradise.
In many cities around the world, retreating to the suburbs yields two key advantages: access to more living space, and access to lower property prices.
In Santiago’s trendy Las Condes district, only one of these advantages holds true. Located in the foothills of the Andes, Las Condes offers wide open green spaces, beautifully manicured street scenes, and spacious, contemporary penthouses. However, despite being nearly 10 kilometres out from the city centre, properties here come with a steep price tag.
In Las Condes, homes sell at an average of £280 per square foot (psqft), compared to an average of £150 psqft in other suburban areas, and a £180 psqft in Santiago city itself. In fact, in Las Condes, the closer to the mountains you are (and the further from the city), the higher the prices go. Naturally, this tranquil neighbourhood has become home to the city’s economic elite.
